Schools kill creativity

Sir Ken Robinson has much to say on how schools are stifling creativity. I have attached this video from TED for you to have a look at.

The national curriculum syllabus documents will include general capabilities such as literacy, numeracy and creativity. Teachers will be required to teach creativity whilst teaching their subject matter.

What is creativity? Is creativity in an Arts vs. English vs. Maths vs. History classroom?

Are there some essential features of creativity that are common to all disciplines?

It is a 21st century skill that many are saying our young people lack. Is this true or is it as Ken Robinson argues that schools are killing the creativity rather than nurturing it?

Recently many argue that we need a future breed of innovators, problem solvers and creative thinkers.

Is this what creativity is?

Every lesson two students will be asked to write a reflection on the lesson of the day.

Students are to comment on:

What the learnt in class today?

What surprised them?

What concerned them?

What work has to be done before the next lesson?
